We are So PC – Ben “The PC Guy” and Lisa Worthington Lend Their Microsoft PR Expertise

by Blogging Angels on October 20, 2010

Blogging Angels Recording SessionThis week The Blogging Angels were lucky enough to have two Microsoft mavens guest angel on the podcast: Ben “The PC Guy” Rudolph and Lisa Worthington. The pretzel M&Ms were flowing as the Angels grilled Ben and Lisa about the ins and outs of Windows Live Writer and the best PCs for bloggers on the go (and yes you will be amazed by Ben’s insane PC hardware knowledge base). Do you want to know how bloggers should approach brands like Microsoft? What Microsoft looks for in a blogger and what you shouldn’t do when trying to work with a brand? How do the pros separate their personal and work lives online? Listen in this week and get the inside scoop on PR and blogger relationships and much more from these two incredibly well spoken guests! And at the very end is an earth (or Windows) shattering confession by one of our very own Angels…

Check out this week’s Golden Halos:

Nancy revealed that Smart Brief keeps her up to date on all the latest social media news so she can be extra smart every week.

Heidi threw a halo over – gasp! – a dad blogger, Howard Ludwig. Check out his thoughtful, well-written column Ludwig@Home on TheFatherLife.com.

Amy wanted to help a struggling new blog – CNET. Is there anywhere else worth going to for in depth reviews? No.

Rebecca loves Ellen Seidman in real life, and on her blog Love That Max. But, especially wanted to give her a halo for withstanding the crazy commenters on her Redbook Halloween article that Lisa Belkin wrote about.

Guest Angel Lisa gave her first ever halo to the Photography Corner on The Mom Bloggers Club. We concur that Jennifer James‘ site is full of fabulous advice for all aspects of blogging. (and we’re jealous of Lisa’s Nikon D5000)

Guest Angel (or Charlie?)Ben’s halo cast a golden glow around the Windows Phone 7. He’s been lucky enough to test it out for a while now and says it’s the first phone that allows him to get work done and get back to his life. Check out the cool new Windows Phone 7 commercials that we were watching before we began the podcast.

Here are links to some of the things we talked about this week:

What are Ben’s best PC recommendations for bloggers? We had to write them down, he has them all in his head…

Ultra portable: Asus UL Series, Toshiba R705, HP DM4, Sony Vaio Z (drool worthy)

Netbooks: Gateway LT320,HP Mini 311, Asus EEE PC 1215N

Ben singled out Ina Fried of CNet (remember them?) – as someone who is a true professional and someone he always looks forward to seeing

Lisa talked about the importance of a genuine relationship and cited Mary Jo Foley at ZDNet as a key person for her.

How do Lisa and Ben manage their twitter personalities? Follow them at @BenThePCGuy and @WinMommyLisa to find out.

Great info (even though I have been a Mac girl since this past May) I’m glad to hear from Becca that she is impressed with Windows 7. In this world you can never say never…and I’m glad Windows has a better option than previous OS, should I ever need a PC. Really impressed by the Live Writer product. Wish I had known about that earlier.

I find myself listening to your podcasts twice just to make sure I got it all — even though you post links. Such great information to be had…thank you again! I can’t believe I didn’t know about Live Writer earlier.

Twice! We’re glad to have you listening once. And just FYI, Becca, who did this week’s post, had to listen to Ben’s off-the-cuff list of laptops MORE than twice, just to get it down!

True confession: some of us angels use BOTH. Granted, it’s kind of a luxury to have both systems, but we tell ourselves that it’s for the children. You know, so they learn.
And, you know, so we can have more tech in our lives!

I loved the info and little tidbits from Ben the PC Guy and Lisa. I felt so much better that I try to only use twitter for professional or not-personal items and facebook for family and friends kind of stuff like Ben does. Still trying to find a niche and get the freelance writing gigs so I love that I am learning all sorts of interesting things from the podcasts… Thanks Nancy for turning me on to them!
